Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process however are most prominent on sun-exposed skin, such as the face, neck, hands and forearms. The skin between your eyebrows, around the eyes, and on your forehead is laid over muscle and these muscles are moving all the time when you smile, frown and grimace. Over time it is this repeated facial activity that causes skin to crease eventually forming the lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles caused by muscle contractions such as frown lines, forehead lines and crows’ feet can be improved to appear smoother and reduced in appearance through the use of botulinum toxin injections.Book an appointment

Dermal refers to skin and so ‘dermal fillers’ are an injection therapy used to contour, expand, soften and enhance facial features. They are commonly used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Injectable fillers can be temporary, permanent or semi-permanent.
Although they are referred to as dermal, some injections are not always injected into the skin, they can be placed down deeper into the layers of tissue, some may also inject deeply down onto the bone. Medically these injections are called ‘Soft Tissue Expanders’ and Hyaluronic Acid ( HA ). Hyaluronic Acid is the most common filler used today, both will provide a temporary effect, lasting from six to eighteen months.Book an appointment
How do dermal fillers work?
Temporary dermal fillers contain a sugary gel substance called Hyaluronic Acid. When it is injected it expands the soft tissue and naturally integrates into the skin and the deeper underlying tissues, whilst also attracting moisture into the tissues. These actions add volume, lifting the skin, which temporarily reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. They can be injected almost anywhere in the body, and will help to plump the tissues up and out, whilst sculpting and contouring the treated area.
Hyaluronic Acid are commonly injected into the lips to give them a fuller and more plumper appearance, however can be used almost anywhere in the body for example they could be used to alter the shape of a nose, jaw or chin. Fillers can also be used to improve the appearance of defects such as acne scars as they enhance and rejuvenate any area that is injected.
